Is Rhodri’s open to the public?

Unfortunately, Rhodri’s by the Lake does not operate as a public café as of January 2025. The venue is available exclusively for private event bookings only.

What time can I have my wedding ceremony?

We are licensed for ceremonies from 11am to 5pm in the main Lodge. In Rhodri’s, weddings can only be hosted Monday to Wednesday from 3pm.

Couples must contact Cardiff Registry Office on 029 2087 1680 to check availability and book a registrar. All fees are paid directly to the registry office. We recommend booking the registrar before paying your deposit with Canada Lodge to ensure availability.

The registrar may ask you to confirm with the venue before booking a ceremony time. Feel free to reach out to us for advice on timings.

What if I am not looking to get married onsite or at a church?

You are not required to get married onsite. You can have your ceremony at a local church and host your reception at Canada Lodge. Couples are responsible for booking the church or officiant for their chosen date.

We are already married but looking to renew our vows or have a blessing. Can we do that?

Absolutely! We welcome vow renewals and blessings. However, we do not provide a celebrant. You’ll need to arrange a local celebrant or a member of your church to conduct the ceremony.

Are you wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The main Lodge has ramp access and a lift between floors. Rhodri’s by the Lake is fully accessible and flat throughout.

For accommodation, we recommend Guest Cabin 3, which has ramp access and a walk-in shower.

Is the bar open before the ceremony?

The bar typically opens 45 minutes before the ceremony and closes 20 minutes before it begins. Alcohol is not permitted inside the Lodge or Rhodri’s before the ceremony and must be consumed on the terraces. After the ceremony, the bar operates as usual.

Note: The bar is not open for ceremonies before 12pm.

Does the bar accept cash or card?

As of 31 August 2023, both the Lodge and Rhodri’s are card-only. Bar tabs are not available for guests but can be arranged for the couple through a Wedding Coordinator.

Can you book taxis for guests?

We do not book taxis for guests. We recommend booking taxis in advance. We can provide a list of local taxi companies upon request.

Are any pets allowed for the ceremony or to stay with us?

Pets are not allowed inside the Lodge, Rhodri’s, or accommodation. However, they may be brought onsite for photos on the lawn and must leave afterwards.

Are we allowed to bring confetti?

Yes, but it must be biodegradable. Confetti can be used on the patio, lawn, or main steps/terrace.

Do you allow fireworks?

No, fireworks and Chinese lanterns are not permitted. Sparklers are allowed on the lawn. Couples must provide sparklers and a bucket with sand for safe disposal.

How many rooms do you have onsite?

We have 13 rooms in total, with 12 available on the wedding night:

  • 1 x Executive Cabin (for the couple, night before and night of the wedding)
  • 3 x Guest Cabins (sleeps 4 each)
  • 7 x Subterranean Apartments (sleeps 2 each)
  • 1 x Nova Scotia Apartment (sleeps 4)

Total capacity: 32 guests, including the couple.

Do we have to book all of the rooms onsite?

No, but unbooked rooms will be released for general sale 6 months prior to the wedding.

Options:

  1. Book all rooms and pay on the final invoice (10% discount, £50 deposit per room required 6 months prior).
  2. Allow guests to book directly with Canada Lodge on 02920 892090 (first come, first served).

Room booking preferences are confirmed during your initial planning meeting.

Can my guests book accommodation for the night before the wedding?

We cannot guarantee availability the night before, as weddings run 7 days a week. If the previous couple allows independent bookings, rooms may be available. Accommodation is released 3 months prior to the wedding date.

Are the room rates inclusive of breakfast?

Yes. Breakfast is included and served in Rhodri’s by the Lake from 8:30am to 10:00am. It includes a cooked breakfast and continental options.

What are the check-in/check-out times for the accommodation?

  • Check-in: From 2:00pm on the wedding day.
  • Check-out: By 10:30am the following day.

Guests are encouraged to arrive dressed for the ceremony. Luggage can be stored in the Lodge cloakroom.

The ceremony is early. Can guests check in earlier?

Early check-in depends on prior bookings. Contact the reception team to check availability.

Can we check out later than 10:30am?

Late check-out is not available for guests. The couple may check out at 12:00pm.

Do you have travel cots or extra sleeping provisions?

No. Guests should bring their own travel cots or extra bedding if needed.

How many people can stay in the executive suite the night before the wedding?

The suite sleeps 3 (double bed + single sofa bed). Additional guests may stay if they bring their own bedding. Please inform us of the number of guests for breakfast planning.

The room must be tidied before the ceremony so housekeeping can refresh it for the couple.

What facilities are in the accommodations?

  • Subterranean Apartments: Tea/coffee facilities and mini fridge.
  • Guest & Executive Cabins: Tea/coffee facilities, mini fridge, and microwave.

How many wedding planning meetings will we have?

You’ll have three planning meetings:

  1. After deposit payment (around 14 months before the wedding if booked far in advance)
  2. At 6 months before the wedding (usually by phone)
  3. At 2 months before the wedding (final details and invoice)

Our coordinators are available throughout your planning journey.

Are we included in the guest numbers?

Yes. The couple is included in the total guest count. For example, a 60-guest package includes the couple plus 58 guests.

When can we decorate the venue? Do we need to do this ourselves?

If no wedding is scheduled the day before, you can decorate between 12pm and 3pm. Suppliers can also access the venue during this time.

If there is a wedding the day before, drop off décor at 10am the day before. The events team will set up from 7am on your wedding day.

Note: Flowers and cakes must be delivered on the day of the wedding.

What time can suppliers gain access to the venue to set up on my wedding day? When do they collect their items?

Suppliers can access the Lodge from 8am on the wedding day. All items must be collected by midnight (or 1am if the bar is extended).

Do you accommodate dietary requirements?

Yes. Include dietary needs in your table plan and seating chart. We can also offer vegan/vegetarian options at no extra charge.

Can I offer a choice menu?

Yes. You may offer a choice of two options per course for an additional £2.50 per person, per course.
